Last month, Uppercase publisher Janine Vangool joined Lilla for a special LIVE REVIEW in our MATS Part A and Part B self-paced courses
We shared one brand new assignment in each class and had over 100 submissions in each one. You can view the public galleries here. We are thrilled to be showcasing a 4 part series of the ‘picks’ that Lilla and Janine chose as part of the live review.
Part 1 below is from the MATS A ASSIGNMENT: Illustrate the title page of a new version of the UPPERCASE Surface Pattern Guide, demonstrating your exuberant love of surface pattern.

SARAH GOLDEN
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Really like the overall pattern with text. Incorporated hand- lettering is a good style that suits the background style and pattern. Color palette is striking, and delivered with care and quality. Beautiful. Speaks to the brief that was presented in class.

SANDRINE MONNIER
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Beautifully designed. Composition is interesting. Love the style, the wood-grain cutout and the woman and very modern. Typography well done. Would recommend moving the central cat to one side or add pattern to the cat.

KRISTIN ROSKIFTE
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Overall pattern and typography really nicely done. Cute and whimsical with a winter theme. Characters are cool, would like to see them pop a little more against the background and the main typography to appear a little clearer.
MARENTHE OTTEN
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Quirky original style, great color palette and sets apart from other pieces. Very different and speaks to the theme. Cool organic details. This really stood out showing lots of personality.
