Lilla writes: What an incredible field of talent! The level of mastery and beauty made the decision incredibly exciting yet super challenging. We are grateful to our impressive panel of VIP judges who narrowed down the field from 50 semi-finalists to six, from which we were then tasked with selecting a winner. We loved seeing the work for the final assignment, which was to illustrate a short section of one of three texts to create a double-page picture book spread.

After hours of discussion and deliberation here at the Studio, including reviewing the entire body of work of each artist, we are delighted to reveal the winner of our international search for our next artist, our Global Talent Search!

Based on mastery of work and originality of style, we are delighted to announce the winner of our Global Talent Search and Lilla Rogers Studio’s next represented artist, Kendra Binney!

What is the Global Talent Search?

The Lilla Rogers Studio Global Talent Search is how top art agent Lilla Rogers finds her next artist to represent, as she searches across the globe for the freshest talent in the art industry. The winner of the GTS receives a host of incredible career-enhancing prizes, including international representation from Lilla Rogers Studio, an all-expenses paid round trip to Boston, USA to participate in Lilla’s Annual Artists’ Retreat, and commissions and career consultations from some of the top executives in the business.

Since winning the Global Talent Search, the previous years’ winners have worked on dream jobs for clients they never thought they’d have access to. They have become hugely successful with the support and hard work of a passionate and dedicated studio that goes beyond the call of duty for their artists.

Entrants complete a creative brief, following which they are whittled down to a shortlist of 50 who will go forward into the next round.

There is currently no GTS scheduled, but sign up for our mailing list here to find out when the next GTS is launched and it could be YOU!

Do I have to be a resident of the USA to take part?

No, the competition is open to everyone regardless of country of residence. However there are some restrictions – please see our Terms & Conditions for details.

How do I enter?

Registration for the next Global Talent Search (GTS) is currently closed. Please join our mailing list to find out when registration will open for the next GTS.

What are the deadlines for submitting work for each round?

A schedule of important dates will be released when the next GTS is launched.

Will I be judged solely on my responses to the creative brief(s) or will my portfolio be looked at along the way?

The decision on who to include in the shortlist of 50 will be based solely on your response to the first creative brief. The decision on who to include in the final six (via the judges’ vote and People’s Choice) will be made based on your response to the second creative brief, should you be shortlisted. Your response to the first creative brief may also be referred to at this stage. You will be asked to provide information about your online presence (links to your website/blog/Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest etc) although for judging purposes these will only be referred to in the event of a tie.

If you make it to the final six then Lilla Rogers Studio will review your online presence, as well as consider more detailed information about your current situation. It will be in your interest to have your online portfolio up to date so you can shine at this point!

If you are worried that you do not have enough quality work in your portfolio, you may want to consider taking one or more of the Make Art That Sells classes ahead of the competition, which will help you develop more commercially viable art whilst staying true to yourself, as well as giving you an inside look into what Lilla Rogers looks for when considering new artists for representation.

What is the prize?

The prize for the next GTS will be confirmed when it is launched. Please see here for details of the career-transforming prize for the 2018 GTS.

Who are the judges?

Our judging panel is an AWESOME line-up of industry experts: you can find details of the 2018 judges here. There will also be a public vote in the second round. Lilla Rogers will make the final selection of the winner.

The judging panel for the next GTS will be confirmed when the competition is launched.

What are the judging criteria?

Entrants will be advised of the judging criteria when the first brief is sent out.

Does this mean I can no longer submit to Lilla Rogers Studio for representation directly?

No, you can still apply to Lilla Rogers Studio via the usual channels at no cost. However, please note that the Global Talent Search is Lilla Rogers Studio’s main focus for finding new talent. Lilla Rogers Studio gets thousands of submissions every year, but it is most likely that the next artist to be taken on for representation will be the winner of the Global Talent Search.

Why is there a fee?

The entry fee covers administration costs and the cost of the bespoke technology to handle all submissions and offer the public voting gallery. Please note no purchase is necessary if you want to submit your work for consideration for representation by Lilla Rogers Studio free of charge via the route of direct submission. However, entering the Global Talent Search will give you the opportunity to respond to a professional-level brief, be part of a widely advertised competition and, if you are shortlisted, get your work featured in our online gallery and in front of our esteemed panel of judges.

If I enter, will the organizers own the rights to my artwork?

No, you will retain all rights to your work, but we will be able to show it in the context of the competition both in our online gallery and in any online and offline promotional materials. Please see our Terms & Conditions for full details.

Can I enter multiple times?

No. Entry is restricted to one submission per person for each round of the competition. Please see our Terms & Conditions for further details.

I am going to be away when one of the deadlines is due. Does this mean I cannot enter?

Unfortunately the deadlines cannot be altered to accommodate individual schedules. It will be your responsibility to ensure that your entry is submitted on time and in the correct way. We are unable to release assignments ahead of the scheduled date.

Can I get feedback on my entry?

We are sorry but due to the large number of entries anticipated, we will not be able to provide individual feedback on work submitted.

How many creative briefs do we get?

Everyone who enters will have access to the initial professional-level creative brief. The 50 people shortlisted will have access to a second creative brief, and the six finalists will then receive a third creative brief.

Do I have to do a computer-based design?

Both computer-based and hand-drawn work will be accepted, but work will need to be uploaded online. We cannot accept any entries through the post. Full details will be provided to entrants when the first brief is sent out.

Do I have to be a Make Art That Sells student to take part?

No, but it might help you! The Make Art That Sells courses are designed to help you create more commercially viable art in exactly the markets that the Global Talent Search briefs are designed for. The courses teach you how to make exactly the kind of art that the Judging Panel and Lilla Rogers will be looking for, so if you have been thinking about taking any of the courses we encourage you to do so in order to maximise your chances of success in the competition.

Can I enter if I am currently represented by an agent?

If you are currently represented in the US in any form then we are sorry but you are not eligible to enter. This includes literary representation. We are not in the business of poaching artists from other agencies! The only exception is if you are represented outside the US in a limited number of countries (excluding the US), and if your existing agent agrees that it is acceptable for you to enter. If you make it through to the later rounds you will be asked to produce evidence of this.

If I win, I am prepared to leave my current agent. Is it okay for me to enter?

No. Please see above. You must not be represented at the time of entering.

I work as an in-house designer at a stationery (or other product manufacturing) company. Am I eligible to enter?

You will need to check with your employer first as some do not permit in-house artists/designers to be represented by agents. If you make it through to the later rounds you will be asked to produce evidence of their approval.

I have some existing licensing deals. Am I eligible to enter?

As long as you are not currently represented (see above) it is fine for you to already have some licensing deals in place (whether exclusive or non-exclusive), regardless of whether these were secured by you or previously by an agent whom you no longer work with. If you were to proceed to the final stages you would have an opportunity to discuss ‘house accounts’ with Lilla Rogers Studio – i.e. whether you would want to continue handling those yourself or whether you would want the Studio to take over and handle them on your behalf.

Before you enter the Global Talent Search please read these Terms & Conditions carefully. If you choose to enter, this will mean that you accept all the Terms & Conditions laid out below.

By registering for any of the Make Art That Sells classes, please be aware you are agreeing to the following Terms & Conditions detailed here:

(1) The Global Talent Search (GTS) is open to anyone who is (i) over 18 and (ii) not currently represented by another agent or studio in the US. (Other restrictions may apply. Please see our FAQ page for more details.) Entrants can be residents of any country. However, staff and immediate family of Lilla Rogers Studio, Do What You Love Ltd or the Judging Panel will not be eligible.

(2) GTS is organised by Lilla Rogers Studio and Do What You Love Ltd (‘The Organizers’).

(3) The prize is as listed on the Prize page (via the ‘Prize’ tab above). The Organizers reserve the right to change the prize offering at any time, including withdrawing or adding prizes. There is no cash alternative and prizes are not transferable, refundable or endorsable.

(4) In order to be considered, entrants must register via the official form by the published deadline. No registrations after this deadline will be considered.

(5) There is a non-returnable administration fee to register, which is payable in full upon registration. In 2018, this was GBP25 (approx. $38). An early bird discount may be offered by the Organizers for a limited period at their discretion. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE COMPETITION FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.

(6) The competition will be run as explained on the ‘How it works’ page (via the tab above). The Judging Panel’s decision on the five shortlisted Finalists is final and no correspondence will be entered into. A sixth Finalist will be selected by public vote, with the shortlisted candidate with the most votes being selected as ‘The People’s Choice’. In the event that ‘The People’s Choice’ winner is also selected by the Judging Panel, the Judging Panel’s sixth choice will be offered a place in the final.

In the case of any tie or dispute, Lilla Rogers has the casting vote on the choice of any finalist chosen by the Judging Panel and/or People’s Choice Finalist.

In addition, Lilla Rogers reserves the right to add one or more further finalists at her sole discretion should she choose to do so.

(7) The overall Winner will be decided by Lilla Rogers, whose decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

(8) By submitting your artwork for any stage of GTS you hereby grant to The Organizers a non-exclusive, worldwide royalty-free license to show your submitted image(s) online and in any published materials relating to GTS and its promotion, now or in the future. No fee is payable for showing your work in the context of GTS. You will retain all rights to your own work.

(9) You will only submit work which is wholly owned by you, was created in response to the GTS brief set, and does not infringe any copyright or other intellectual property rights. The Organizers will not be held responsible should you submit work which is subsequently proven to have infringed any intellectual property rights.

(10) Anyone submitting work which infringes any intellectual property rights will automatically and immediately be disqualified from GTS.

(11) The Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any work not submitted in line with the Submission Guidelines (which will be provided to all registered participants along with the first brief), or which The Organizers deem offensive or unsuitable. All entries will need to be uploaded to a designated web page. Entries submitted by post will not be considered.

(12) Contestants automatically accept the terms and conditions of this competition and acknowledge all UK laws which may apply. This competition is managed by Do What You Love Ltd (a limited company registered in the UK) on behalf of Lilla Rogers Studio. Any dispute or claim arising in relation to GTS shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales.

(13) Failure to adhere to these terms and conditions nullifies contestant privileges to further participate in GTS as the Organizers see fit to determine.

(14) Only one entry per person is permitted. The competition is made up of three stages of submission. The number of images permitted per round will be stated clearly in the creative brief provided to participants at each stage. Only those selected to proceed to subsequent stages will be sent the later creative briefs.

(15) No changes can be made to published deadlines to accommodate individual requests. The Organizers reserve the right to change any of the published dates at any time without notice.

(16) All 50 shortlisted candidates will be sent a summary copy of the Terms of Agreement of Representation for Lilla Rogers Studio. If any shortlisted candidate does not agree to any of the terms, they will be requested to retire from GTS prior to the announcement of the finalists. In such a case no refund of their entry fee will be payable. Once candidates have been selected as Finalists, it is fully expected that they will ultimately sign an agreement of representation with Lilla Rogers Studio should they win. The start date and all contractual details will be agreed directly between the Winner and Lilla Rogers Studio. The Winner will have the opportunity to speak at length to Lilla Rogers Studio prior to signing any agreement.

(17) You give permission for your email address to be added to the mailing lists of Lilla Rogers Studio and Do What You Love. You can unsubscribe at any time.

(18) Participants are encouraged to submit work well in advance of any given deadline. The Organizers will not be liable for any misadventure, accident, injury, loss or claim that may occur during GTS in connection with participation in the competition; as a consequence of late or lost files or failure of an entry to be received on the website on account of technical problems or traffic congestion or arising from or related to any problem or technical malfunction of computer equipment.
