See all the festive showcase posts here *** Christine Benda I created a little Christmas fox sitting on a soft little snow cloud. He is the first image I created without using paper and only using Illustrator and Photoshop! I’ve just finished MATS A October 2015 and I’ve signed up for self-paced MATS B. I loved working on my MATS assignments and I think I learned a lot about how I work and how to improve. I have learned to stay positive! I want to work my way through MATS B and continue to work on my portfolio. Happy Festive season! We are so proud of our wonderful Make Art That Sells alumni and are pleased to showcase some festive designs and products they have created for the season. Here is part 1. See all the festive showcase posts here Renee Ciufo Every year I design a new Christmas card and coffee mug. They’re huge sellers! I get a lot of repeat customers. This years’ illustration is a peaceful snow scene with two red-nosed deer and a couple snowmen on the other side. This card is for sale in Renee’s Etsy store I have taken MATS Bootcamp which helped me enormously relax my style. I have enjoyed creating, because it’s not so much laborious and more of ME comes out in my art. I am eternally grateful and will be signing up for more classes soon. What makes you weird is what makes your brand special (free video series + chance to win)

Lilla often gets asked what makes an artist stand out. Her favorite answer is ‘What makes you weird makes your brand special!’ What? It’s OK to be quirky, an oddball, different from everyone else? YES! In fact, more than OK, it’s important, and it’s what will set you apart. As a thank you for being part of our fantastic MATS community, in the week of Thanksgiving we will be offering a free video series on monetizing those quirks! SIGN UP HERE to receive three videos, delivered to your inbox from November 23-25. In this free series Lilla will share… Why it pays to be different/weird/quirky How to identify the differences that you can use to your advantage in your art career How to take those quirks and make them your signature How to attract mainstream clients with your quirks, not put them off Other tips on monetizing your quirks

Mini assignment Number 5: Orgy of Organization

This coming Monday we begin the Make Art That Sells Parts A and B courses, LIVE for the last time. (That means I’ll be doing reviews of the work in class, there will be the private Facebook group and more.) If you haven’t signed up already, get cracking’ here because it all begins on Monday. So what I like to do before I start a project is to get my organizational system ready. And that’s what you’re going to do today. Suggestions: Get a three ring notebook for all the downloadable handouts you’re going to get. You’ll get loads of forms, info sheets, tips and more, and you’re going to want to save them. Go ahead and make tabs for your binder, one for each of the 5 weeks. Here’s what I did, to show you what I mean: xo, Lilla

5 things I have learned from MATS and how the experience has earned me several artistic career “wins.”

Today, we have a lovely guest post from Make Art That Sells alumni Dawn Gonzales Here is a summary of the top 5 things I have learned from MATS and how the experience has earned me several artistic career “wins.”   1. Create/Sell your joy: Once I started this, I knew I was on to something. My very first MATS assignment was to create a design for an iPhone. I love drawing characters, and so I created my design around a self conscious squirrel and his birdhouse friend.  I uploaded my designs to Redbubble.com and sold several cases! This design is still one of my favorites. Additionally, My nautical wall art project from June 2014 has become a best seller in my shop. People love whales! 2. Create art everyday. Upon Lilla’s advice, I made a morning studio practice a priority in my daily life. Not only have my skills and
