We are thrilled to be showcasing a 4 part series of the ‘picks’ that Lilla and Janine chose as part of the live review.
Here is part 3 from the MATS A ASSIGNMENT: Illustrate the title page of a new version of the UPPERCASE Surface Pattern Guide, demonstrating your exuberant love of surface pattern.
Last month, Uppercase publisher Janine Vangool joined Lilla for a special LIVE REVIEW in our MATS Part A and Part B self-paced courses
We shared one brand new assignment in each class and had over 100 submissions in each one. You can view the public galleries here: MATS A Gallery | MATS B Gallery

LINDSAY LOWERY
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Very radical and different! Very beautiful and paintily. Has a nice surface quality to the work, very cohesive with a nice flow. Bold with mark making, very punchy.

MARJOLEIN ODINK
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Liked all of these motifs, mark making. Lots of trendy stuff and showing the trends in the design. A personal sensitive quality of line which is cared for. Love the pencil with mountain top.

JENNA ALLDREAD
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: We love the repeat pattern which is eccentric, with cats in different poses.

HEATHER MANNING
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Works really well, like a lot of the motifs. The sun has been seen many times before with a retro quality. The smiley sun is more targeted to a children’s book or cute brief.

MEL SMITH
Lilla and Janine’s thoughts: Beautiful piece. A nice interpretation of a city in a surface pattern way. Liked the treatments of textures over the blocks. Very vintage and great color palette.
