What has Flora Waycott been up to since winning the Global Talent Search 2014 Special Studio Award?

Flora Waycott is the Global Talent Search 2014 Special Studio Award Winner. Since winning, she has been represented by Lilla Rogers’ Agency and created art for some of the great names in the industry, worked at developing her style and trying out new techniques, exposed at Surtex and spoke at the MATS Global Art Gathering in Brighton – all that in only 8 months! There is no doubt that representation by Lilla Rogers’ Agency was a huge step in Flora’s career and even though she didn’t make it the first time she entered the Global Talent Search back in 2013, she was right to believe in herself and give it another go! So, what has Flora been up to since winning the GTS Special Studio Award last October? Here are only a few of the many commissions she has been working on in the past few months.  All images courtesy of Flora Waycott.

How Alumni Laurence Lavallee found her Flow again after taking MATS A

We love this video from MATS Alumni Laurence Lavallee aka ‘Flo’. Laurence describes her experience of taking the MATS A course through the life of a little bird who was lost before she found ‘Make Art That Sells‘ and a community of wonderful designers. Laurence submitted this as part of our class competition and won a free spot in MATS B starting in October. *** Would you like to find your design path and a wonderful community to travel along with? Our brand new class ‘Creating Collections for Home Decor‘ teaches you how to create collections for home décor and present it in a winning pitch! So start thinking about what kind of products you might like to see your work on. Class starts on Monday 22 June and runs for 5 weeks. Registration is open here

Manifesto competition – The winners!

We receive so many wonderful comments about ‘Make Art That Sell’s, that we challenged our amazing alumni to submit their own Manifesto. We had 161 entries and were absolutely delighted (but not surprised!) by the staggering level of submissions for the MATS Manifesto illustration competition. Lilla was very impressed with all the entries and announced an overall winner, PLUS 4 honorable mentions. The winner gets a free place on our wonderful new MATS course launching later this year (watch this space!). Our runners up all win a free entry into the 2015 Global Talent Search.

Just a girl and her brush…

[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/80334792[/vimeo] Take a moment out of your day to watch this gorgeous video by MATS course graduate Wendy Brightbill (aka A Girl and Her Brush). Although Make Art That Sells is packed with the insider knowledge that only comes from Lilla’s three decades’ of experience in the business, it’s amazing the most powerful thing people come away with is actually nothing to do with money or selling at all. But what they learn is what will lead them to making more art that ultimately does sell. Have a look for yourself…

Does ‘Make Art That Sells’ actually work? Yes. Here’s the proof.

So does ‘Make Art That Sells’ actually work? Do artists who take the class actually sell more art? Well yes, they do. We asked class participants for examples of their successes since taking the course, and were staggered by the response, bearing in mind that some people only took the course 4-5 months ago. Students have since secured licensing deals in the gift, editorial, baby apparel, bolt fabric, wall art, greetings, home décor, paper and fashion markets, many have won competitions and a number have been signed for representation.

Guest Blogger : Emily Balsley reflects on MATS and the GTS Finals

Hey Lilla! Now that Make Art That Sells and the Global Talent Search are over I finally have the time to sit down and reflect on the last six months. What a whirlwind it has been! I went into the course a fairly “green” illustrator and I have come out of it ready to take on the world one illustration at a time – with new skills, self-confidence, focus and drive.
