Here are just a few examples …
Jennifer Potter has written a comprehensive review of our raved-about online course Illustrating Children’s Books in her blog here. She says: “Would I recommend this class? Absolutely. It’s worth it for the materials, the community, the portfolio-building assignments, and the career guidance. All of that stuff is yours to keep well after the class is over, so even if you aren’t very skilled at art yet, you have it for when you’re ready to start your career.”

Dawn Bevins also took Illustrating Children’s Books in fall 2018. You can find her full review here, but in conclusion she says: “So was it worth it and did I enjoy it? Yes it was and yes I did (I even had a tiny cry at it after I uploaded the final assignment… or maybe I was just overworked! :) ). It is, if you want it to be, a lot of work, the amount of information given to you and the amount you are asked to do is intense, but I also found it great fun and exhilarating to be part of something, and to have set deadlines and goals. I was also surprised by how much work I actually produced in five weeks.”
Another Illustrating Children’s Books alumna, Asma Enayeh, made a great video of her experience – see it here and read more about how she got on in her blog post here.

Gracie Klumpp is yet another Illustrating Children’s Books alumna! She says: “I honestly don’t remember the last time I was that happy and got in such a great creative flow! So maybe it was a bit much, and I definitely have some tweaking to do, but I’m pleased with how much just plain fun this was, and how much that has been infused into my work this past week!” She’s written a full series of blogs with loads of images from her sketchbooks that you can find here.

Here’s Anna Lindsten, who, as we mentioned in a previous blog post, has landed a number of book deals since taking Illustrating Children’s Books in October 2018. “A while ago I took an online course called Illustrating children’s books. Before that I had nurtured a dream to make a kids’ book for years, I have old manuscripts (never finished) and old sketches and cut paper and pencil sketches of ideas for books. But I found it so incredibly hard to… get there. What I’m saying is, I didn’t have the right tools and I couldn’t seem to finish any of the ideas.”
Anna continues: “So, I took this illustration children’s books class and I was blown away by it, it gave me the tools I totally needed to draw a character with emotions and energy – it was huge to me. And as a graphic designer from the start I thought from time to time, maybe I can’t draw!? I took the kids books class again last year, and that’s when things really started to happen. I was contacted by a children’s books author who had seen the work I did in class and she asked if I wanted to illustrate one of her texts and now we’re making a book together! Soon after that, I got a request from an editor at a Swedish children’s books publisher, she had seen a character I did in the class a year earlier!”

Jacqueline Wild took our first ever, sold-out Editorial LIVE course earlier in 2019. She says: “I’ve just had a month of Make Art That Sells Editorial course and it’s been a lot of fun. There is something about MATS and being part of a community that makes the process really addictive and reassuring. There are so many fantastic artists that take part, many of them professional and represented by top agent Lilla Rogers herself. It makes me feel part of something and there is a lot of inspiration!”
