FREE assignment #2: Learn to do lettering

Learn to do lettering with Assignment Bootcamp: Lettering

Lilla here. Yesterday I shared a little sneak peek of some of the content you’ll get in my brand new lettering course, Assignment Bootcamp: Lettering, which starts this Monday, February 5th, and today I’m going to give you another FREE worksheet to play with and learn from.

Learn to do lettering

Practice lettering by Lilla – note how she plays around and experiments with the lettering style. You’ll practice different letterforms with her insightful worksheets, each with notes from Lilla, and build a unique resource you can refer back to.

In Assignment Bootcamp: Lettering, you’ll get one of these worksheets – which I’m calling Micro Mini assignments – every day from Monday to Friday of the first week of each month. So I gave you one yesterday and another one today to give you a real taste of what the course will be like. Just like in the course, you can do a little bit each day when you get the Micro Mini assignment, or you can save it all for the weekend.

Whichever you do though, be sure to join me for a FREE live Zoom on the first day of class, Monday, February 5th, at 2.30 pm ET/7.30 pm GMT. I’ll be answering your questions and giving away a FREE place in class! Plus I’ll be joined by two of my amazing artists, Ruth Burrows and Sarah Walsh, who will be showing their products and sketchbooks, and sharing how lettering helped them get work. Set a reminder now!

Here’s your Second free download

I hope you’ve already enjoyed Part 1 of this #MATSprep warm-up exercise, but if not be sure to check it out here.

Here’s your second free Micro Mini assignment. It’s the same deal as the previous FREE assignment I gave you: I want you to riff off of and experiment with the lettering in your sketchbook or on your screen, and don’t forget to pay attention to my notes at the bottom of the page.

Cookbook Betty

Download your worksheet here.

This lettering is from my vintage Betty Crocker cookbook. Isn’t it dreamy? Vintage books and papers are a great source of inspiration, and in Assignment Bootcamp: Lettering we’ll be exploring everything from quirky mid-century fonts like this to beautiful antique scripts.

When you’ve finished both your worksheets, hang on to them – I suggest that you print them out and paste them into a sketchbook or journal along with your practice. Then by the end of the course, you’ll have a reference guide of 17 different fonts (15 from the class and these two warm-up sheets) – how cool is that!

Enjoy! Don’t forget to share what you do on social media and tag @makeartthatsells and use the hashtag #MATSprep so that I can see it!

Want more like this? You’ll get your first Micro Mini assignment on the first day of class – THIS MONDAY, February 5th! Sign up here!
