 KAREN VERMEULEN

Christmas_2017_karen_vermeulen

It’s Christmas time again! this little birdie is a little surprised to find that it’s that time of the year again. A folksy robin with a big questioning eyeball in a snowy landscape will be on greeting cards and gift tags for sale at markets in Cape Town, for more details or mail orders please contact me through my website.

I took Mats A self paced and I did some of my favourite work through a class project. Mats taught me a different approach and allowed my illustration work to go up a few levels. I’m hoping to create more work I’m proud of in 2017, to keep learning and creating and growing my career as an illustrator.

ARROWYN CRABAN LAUER | LITTLE GOLD FOX DESIGNS

Paper-card3B

A stag leaps handsomely through the autumn wood. Click here for more info. This is an original mixed-media design

The card is 4.25 x 5.5 inches printed on 100% recycled Speckletone paper in beautiful Portland, Oregon. The paper is a lovely natural white card stock with darker fibers woven through and the inside is blank leaving room for a personal message. Comes with a brick red envelope.

The MATS classes have revolutionized my artwork. The first class I took I went through a period of grieving when I realized how little I had actually invested in my artistic ability over the years. These classes gave me permission to explore, to experiment, to envision a new way of expressing myself.

This design had its origins in one of the assignment in the Home Decor class. I plan to expand on this style and build up a portfolio of work for licensing in 2017.

ALLY BRYAN | COLOURED SPACE DESIGNS

christmas-cards-1
The first card was the reindeer with sunnies on (we are in Australia and most of us have these as our daily wear!) The reindeer was a motif that featured in a card I created for a MATS brief on creating a Christmas card. then I just kept going drawing motifs as Lilla always says and thinking about our surrounds and what flora, fauna and unique animal life we have here in Australia! The next 3 cards were born, the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Roo + Koala and Christmas Bird – just a friendly chirpy face that we hear every day!

Once I created them I set off to find a home for them – my Goal this year was to break into the gift wrap and card market. I hold a shop called Berkelouw books close to my heart. There are 10 stores in NSW and I love everyone of them. Great havens to get lost in – I love books! I tracked down the buyer for them and headed off to sell my soul! I was blown away when they took 14 of my designs and I now have them on Greeting cards and gift warp in all of there stores! I have to pinch myself when I walk by! I would like to say a huge thank you to Lilla and also all of the lovely talented artists I have met along the way. You have all been an inspiration to me and have given me the courage to believe in myself and to head out and make my dreams a reality! Thank you!

The classes I have taken this year and last are MATS A + B, GTS and Bootcamp. Next year I would like to try the new home decor courses and whatever else I can fit into my schedule! Lilla you have made me approach my projects in a much more structured way so that when I receive your brief it is not as daunting as it used to be. I feel every time I work with this community I learn something new – thanks for sharing everyone!

JILL BERGMAN

Jill Bergman Happy Holidays
This is a design for a Holiday greeting card using hand made stamps, collage, and pencil.

The MATS classes I have taken are the recent Illustrating Children’s Books, Bootcamp, and I’ve entered in the Global Talent Search.

The classes have helped me simplify my imagery and target it better to my desired audience. So many little pointers have also helped with promotion and confidence in my work. In 2017 I will be submitting book proposals to agents and publishers with mush more confidence that my presentation is eye-catching and includes the type of work they would like to see.

TRACEY ENGLISH

tracey_english_devadesigns

I designed this range of gift wrap and gift bags for Deva Designs, a UK based company and they are for sale this holiday season in UK Shops and online.

I took the initial MATS A and B, various Bootcamps and Home Decor twice!

The classes encourage you to develop new ideas, and work on portfolio pieces all with in a very supportive, creative environment.

I am always looking for new outlets for my designs and hope to develop more new opportunities during the following year. MATS classes encourage you to think outside the box and go down avenues you didn’t even know were possible.
