How can you land representation with top art agency Lilla Rogers Studio? It’s something that we get asked a lot. And the short and easy answer is that every live Make Art That Sells course is an incredible opportunity to get your art directly in front of art agent Lilla Rogers: she’s always on the lookout for new talent! Lilla looks at every single piece of art submitted to the class galleries when she’s preparing for the live class reviews, and she also loves to keep an eye on the private class Facebook groups and see all your beautiful work in progress. REVEALED: The winner of our huge video testimonial competition!

Discover what our students love about Make Art That Sells! Last month, we launched our massive video testimonial competition. We wanted to know what you loved about Make Art That Sells, the great work you’ve gotten, the friends you’ve met, and the courses that have blown your mind, and you did NOT disappoint! We were amazed by the standard of the entries that we received, and it was very hard to pick a winner, but a winner we must have, so we are delighted to announce that the winner is … RAINBOW WANG! Watch her video below. Art agent Lilla said: “I loved each and every video, but I was particularly moved the film by Rainbow Wang. What should you show in your portfolio? FREE download!

Lilla here. As an agent, one thing that I get asked all the time is: what should I show in my portfolio in order to get illustration jobs? Artists say to me: “Lilla, I’ve just finished art school, and I have a load of life drawings and abstracts, but what do I actually NEED?” My whole thing is about diversification. In other words, the secret to a successful art career is just like a financial stock portfolio: you don’t know what’s going to give you a ton of work or what art markets going to go up or down, so you need to diversify your investments. That’s why I often talk about having many eggs in many baskets – don’t focus all your energy and efforts on one art market, but tackle several at the same time. That’s what will give you the best returns and make your career more

Assignment Bootcamp: Portfolio is now open for registration! In a recent public Zoom event, art agent Lilla described Assignment Bootcamp: Portfolio as “affordable and fun”, which by weird coincidence is also my Tinder bio. But where Assignment Bootcamp: Portfolio has the edge is that it will help you crank out some gorgeous, on-trend artwork for your portfolio that can land you jobs and maybe even representation (including with Lilla – she’s always looking for new talent in class). Make Art That Sells student Brian Lambert was offered an illustration gig after a publisher spotted this character he created for Assignment Bootcamp: Portfolio on his Instagram account – and then shortly after that he landed representation with art agent Lilla too! Over three months, from August to the end of October, you’ll get something every single Monday that all adds up to help you make three brilliant bang-up-to-date portfolio pieces geared

#MATSprep: One weird tip from an art agent: find the magic in your environment

Lilla here. Today I’m going to make you flip out, literally. For the past days, I’ve been sharing some FREE assignments that I created for you to get ready for my online course, Illustrating Children’s Books. I hope you’ll join us: class starts Monday, May 23rd, so book your spot now! Today I’m eager to help you make some magic that will give your picture book illustrations more visual impact. Think about your audience. Children are so in touch with their imaginations: they even live in fantasy land a great deal of the time! They are going to love the imaginative worlds that you create: whether it’s dreamy, moody, whimsical or witty, digging deep into a manuscript and creating all those little details is one of the most rewarding parts of children’s book illustration.
