This is an amazing opportunity and we wanted to let you know now with plenty of notice so you can get your pitch in the best possible shape in case you get picked.

5.1 themes

Arty books illustrated by artists represented by Lilla Rogers Studio. What would your arty book be about?

Q. Hold up, hold up – what’s an arty book?

A. An arty book is a book that’s primarily filled with imagery – there will be some text, but it can vary from some to very little. The images in an arty book could be illustrations, photographs, lettering, diagrams, or anything else – so this isn’t just for illustrators, it’s for anyone who has a passion and would like to share it. It could be a craft how-to, a guided journal or anything else filled with dreamy art. Read more here.

Q. Do I have to have taken My Arty Book Pitch in order to get picked?

A. No! This opportunity is open to anyone who would love to get a book deal for their very own arty book, whether you’ve taken Lilla’s course or not.

Q. Do I have to have a completely finished pitch for Lilla to look at?

A. No! Maybe you just have the seeds of an idea but you don’t know how to get started and you want to see if your idea has legs. Lilla has more than 40 years’ experience in the creative business, and as well as being a published author herself has helped the artists she represent publish wonderful arty books of their own, so she can advise at every stage, from initial ideas to putting the finishing touches to a kickass pitch. Here are some suggestions of things you could share with Lilla for feedback:

  • Initial ideas for a creative book
  • Sketches or illustrations
  • A pitch from a previous class
