REad Editorial illustration success stories

Earlier this week, we shared just some of our former students’ success stories – find them here – and today we’re delighted to share Part 2.

Jemma Jamie Skidmore

Another repeat My Year of Art School student – she took it in both 2019 and 2020 – Jemma landed an incredible gig with Honest History magazine after taking Lilla’s very first editorial class.

Jemma says: “After taking the class, I was approached by Honest History magazine to do a cover, poster and spot illustrations. This was my first professional commission and if I hadn’t already taken the editorial class I would’ve been completely daunted. Lilla’s class taught me what to expect, how to negotiate and plan for what I needed. It was really invaluable and made the whole experience a complete joy.”

Jemma adds: “Every time I take a Make Art That Sells class I learn so much and feel myself growing and improving as an artist. Lilla is a kind and supportive teacher with the no nonsense attitude you need to make it as a professional. I just love those deadlines. I have also made some wonderful personal and professional connections. After ten years working in the film industry, Make Art That Sells has given me the framework, training and confidence to pursue my dream career as an illustrator.”
