Lilla here. Over the next few days I’m sharing some imaginary creatives who I dreamed up who I can imagine working with in my new small group mentoring intensive, Inner Circle. Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list – I can’t wait to see the quirks and magic you bring to the table and how we can work together to transform your career into something amazing. #2 The fired up activist who’s ready to make a difference
You’ve joined Inner Circle because you want to create art with a political point of view. You want your work to convey peace and compassion. I love this idea. Art has power. We look at mid-century political artists like Corita Kent and Ben Shahn for inspiration.

Digging into your portfolio, I notice you already have beautiful lettering and rich, vibrant backgrounds. I point out the letterforms you’re naturally excelling at and hold up one of my favorite typography books for inspiration. For backgrounds, we explore different media—acrylic versus gouache—and I suggest layering oil paint over acrylic to create rich texture and translucency. You light up at the idea.
Next, we discuss meaningful quotes you’d like to incorporate and focus on varying your lettering styles. We map out a plan for a series of pieces, and you decide on four images to develop before our next one-on-one in a few months. When we meet, we’ll also explore lucrative markets for your work and strategies for sharing it on social media—something you confide in me feels intimidating, but that you truly want to do. I’m more than happy to help you navigate that with confidence. I can’t wait to see what you create!
