Join art agent and former illustrator Lilla LIVE on Zoom TODAY at 2 pm EDT/7 pm BST for a fabulously fun and playful event that will be just like watching over your teacher’s shoulder! She’ll be demonstrating different art materials, and giving away a FREE COURSE!

Join here. You’ll also find the link to join in our Instagram Stories and on the front page of our website at www.makeartthatsells.com.

Day 1 is all about traditional media. Why? Lilla says: “I want people either to try traditional media or to get back to it, because there’s nothing like it. It will absolutely amp up the quality of your work.” Don’t forget, you can scan everything in to Procreate afterwards if you want to!

You can totally just watch Lilla make art and teach, but if you want to follow along with her, here are some suggested materials. To be clear, these are just ideas, you don’t need these exact brands or colors. Download the Art Camp materials list here.

materials basics

Here are some of the main art materials Lilla will be demonstrating … but, as ever, expect some surprises too!

Lilla says: “You can have at the ready a few colored pencils, a dip pen with black ink if you have one, a fine point pen, a fine point brush and a fatter brush, water in a jar or glass, a paper towel, and a palette or dish to mix your paints. Any brand is fine. I’ll be using these materials, plus I’ll spontaneously grab other media on my desk and in my drawers – maybe pencils, gouaches, water colors in tubes, or pens.”

You’ll also need a sheet or two of good water color paper. Lilla says: “I like to tear it into bits and pieces, maybe strips or pieces that are around 3 x5 or 4×6 – it makes them less precious and helps you loosen up and play.”

Again, it’s fine just to watch and take notes, like “Ooh I want to try that tip!”

Lilla says: “Today’s Art Camp is going to be great for getting you ready for my Illustrating Children’s Books course and Bootcamp Special: Character Play, getting you inspired for class and about the materials you’re going to use. Even if you don’t fully go completely traditional, you can make bits and pieces that you then scan into Photoshop and Procreate for use in your art, just like many of my represented artists do.”
