Each of the Micro Mini assignments you’ll get in Week 1 of each month includes a download from Lilla with a carefully curated font plus insight and tips from Lilla to inspire students to really blossom in their lettering. You can work entirely digitally, but many students, like Sarah Joy, above, chose to print out the assignment and paste it into a sketchbook so they could work alongside it.

Lilla carefully chose fonts that suggest a whole range of tones, moods and eras, from medieval to funky to hippie, from elaborate to simple, to help her students create a wide-ranging reference they could refer back to. They got a different font download assignment every day from Monday to Friday for the first week of each month.

In the second week of each month, after a week of experiment and play, students got their Big assignment, to use their newfound lettering skills to create some beautiful art for their portfolios.

In the third week of each month, students got some exciting surprise bonus content while they continued to work on their Big assignments: maybe a juicy pre-recorded interview with a top artist or children’s book art director, maybe a bonus lettering page, or a technique video where Lilla explored a favorite art supply.

Finally, in the fourth week of each month, the students met with Lilla for a dynamic and inspiring live on Zoom. Lilla answered student questions and showed off some gorgeous products for inspiration, and then the students got the chance to interact in private breakout rooms.
