We loved this Lilla Rogers quotation
We wanted to finish by sharing a Lilla Rogers quotation from over on her Instagram feed, which she wrote ahead of a Zoom that she hosted.
Lilla wrote: “Why do I care? Why do I want students to take the class? Why does this matter in the bigger picture of the world, where ignorance and lack of empathy hurts us? What can artists do to help the hurt? And then it came to me. Illustrating a book allows you to have a voice, to draw all kinds of people, to enlighten.”
Lilla continued: “To develop your style, to be uniquely you and your art is an act of strength, of leadership, of showing others how they can be fully themselves. The very act of developing your art, developing your full potential, is a political act. You show others a way to be, that to commit to your talent, to work hard, to value your gifts is to be a role model as a beautiful way to be human.”
