Here’s your third illustration assignment:
For your final assignment, I want you to draw some sea anemones! How cool are they? Seriously, to my eye they are hilarious and gorgeous at the same time.
You might focus simply on one form, like Jenna Freimuth (left), or include a rich variety of specimens, like Amanda Rowe (right).
The purpose of this assignment is to invite you to draw organic shapes. Plus florals (and anemones are kind of floral, even if they’re technically part-animal) are timeless and always in demand, which makes them a great thing to have in your portfolio. It’s a fresh summer theme.
Can’t you just imagine some of these images on fabric, home décor, wall art, accessories, stationery and more?
Think about adding a quote, like Kathleen Bruce (left), or could you lay out your items with space around them, like Caitlyn Harris Bardle (right)?
Might you go in a bright flat graphic direction or a muted textured style?
Art by Kay Wolfersperger (left) and Karolina Golightly (right).
Any style works here. You can go dreamy, soft, technical, moody, realistic, comic, etc. You can even incorporate a little humor if you like, like in Kay Wolfersperger’s art above (those eyes poking up from the bottom!). You be you.
You might settle on a blue palette … Art by Fiona Barden (left) and Amanda Rowe (right).
Feel free to make up your own anemones if you like! There are no rules here. Just play and have fun.
… or a pink palette. Art by Amanda O’Brien (left) and Katia Bulbenko (right).
I’ve made you an inspiration board to give you some ideas and reference material, but go ahead and google some anemones and even make up your own.
I hope that you enjoy your final assignment. I can’t wait to see what you do! Don’t forget to tag @makeartthatsells so I can see it.
Xo
