Since Make Art That Sells was founded back in 2013, art agent Lilla has taken on 30 – now 31 – Make Art That Sells students, and she’s always looking for more.

Lydia Graves!

We caught up with Lydia to find out a little more about her and how Make Art That Sells has helped her along her journey. Here’s what she told us.

MATS: Which course was your favorite, and why?

Lydia says: My favorite course so far has been My Toy Pitch. The assignments were super fun! I enjoyed dreaming up toys and games that I would have loved to have as a child.

MATS: What is your favorite piece of work from a Make Art That Sells course?

Lydia says: My favorite piece from Make Art That Sells is the Groovy Getaway Playset for My Toy Pitch.”

MATS: How have the classes helped you evolve/grow?

Lydia says: The classes have made me evolve into an illustrator. Prior to taking MATS courses, I primarily painted portraits of pets and babies.

MATS: What was the best/most valuable thing you learned from MATS?

Lydia says: Draw what brings you joy! and PERSIST!

MATS: How did you feel when Lilla got in touch to discuss representation?

Lydia says: I had an out of body experience! I thought “REALLY!? This is happening!!”

MATS: What brings you joy?

Lydia says: Drawing! All day every day! And my family and coffee and reality TV of course.

MATS: What’s your dream job?

Lydia says: My dream would be to write and illustrate a children’s book that becomes so popular that other products like children’s clothing, bedding and toys are made. Then that would become an animated series. (Dream big right?!)

MATS: What’s your best tip or piece of advice for Make Art That Sells students?

Lydia says: Draw everyday! Don’t give up. Invest in yourself! Take the time. Take MATS courses. Take other courses. Be unapologetically YOU!
