Introducing my brand new Portfolio Club!

Hey, Lilla, what’s that? I’m glad you asked lol. Portfolio Club is probably the most wide-ranging, varied course I’ve ever offered. You’re going to get an exciting, inspiring assignment from me every single month for eight months in a huge range of art markets – maybe some you haven’t even considered before. Head over to the Portfolio Club product page on our website here to learn exactly which markets the course covers.

Asset 12@4x 80

The special part about this course is that the eight assignments I’ve written for you are all based on actual real-world jobs that I saw as an art agent. In the 30 years from 1994 to 2024, my agency, Lilla Rogers Studio, assigned 13,534 illustration jobs! So I have just a tiny bit of expertise lol.

You’re going to find this so fun and so authentic. It will give you an amazing inside peek as to what it’s really like working as an illustrator. You’ll get to see how a client would pitch a job to you and how enthusiastic and nice they are, plus you’ll learn about rights and usage, and how the budget is not to be taken as gospel. This is what makes this course so very different from anything else out there: you’re going to learn about working as an illustrator in a really cool, fresh way.

Speaking of budget, if you’ve been wondering how much a job pays or how much you should charge, the pretend assignments you’ll get in Portfolio Club will include your fee (of course, you won’t actually get paid, sorry). Again, this is based on my knowledge of jobs and royalties going all the way back to 1994.

Plus you’ll get monthly LIVE Zooms with me to keep you motivated, engaged and on-track. You’ll be able to ask me questions about that month’s assignment or any other questions you might have – take this opportunity to pick my brains from my four decades in the creative industry! – plus I’ll be popping a volunteer or two up on screen to talk to them directly, and maybe performing my famous career tarot.

Q. How do you know how to write assignments?

A. I was an international art agent for 30 years, representing 48 brilliant artists, so I saw the commissions they were getting day in and day out – more than 13,500 in total! That means I know exactly how to write assignments for you that are just like the ones you’ll get as a busy professional illustrator, plus I can draw on the wealth of my experience to know exactly what art directors, publishers and other clients are looking for, and pass that on to you.

As an art agent, I assigned gorgeous commissions like these to my artists every day, in a ton of different markets. Clockwise from top left: journal by Helen Dardik, craft kit by Tara Lilly, book by Mike Lowery, greeting card by Hsinping Pan, book by Charlotte Bruijn, book by Sarah Walsh, and hand-shaped book by Flora Waycott.

Q. Ooh! What will the assignments be?

A. You can read more about which markets this course covers on the Portfolio Club product page but I’m afraid the actual assignments I’m cooking up for you are a closely guarded secret.

I can promise you’ll be delighted and amazed by the assignments that, and that they’ll cover all the best markets for illustrators, for markets which buy the most art and pay the best.
