Lilla says: “A little while ago, I became obsessed with the idea of teaching my students and my artists how to write a really excellent story for a picture book. I wanted to teach it in a way that was playful and imaginative, but with lots of concrete tips and plenty of downloadables and examples.”

The course is based on the way that Lilla works with the amazing artists she represents, and includes tons of insider info on how you can avoid the 10 things never to do that Lilla has seen from book pitches submitted to her, plus hints and tips from children’s picture book art director and author and Make Art That Sells co-teacher, Zoë Tucker.

The first book written and illustrated by Erica Root, a Make Art That Sells student who is now represented by Lilla Rogers Studio after Lilla spotted her in class.

As a professional art agent and as an innovative educator, Lilla has tons of experience of nurturing creative people to create their very best work. For example, Erica Root, a former (and current!) Make Art That Sells student was just one of several students snapped up for representation by Lilla Rogers Studio in 2019. (Make Art That Sells courses are an amazing opportunity to get your art directly in front of art agent Lilla and maybe land representation yourself!)

When Lilla first offered Erica representation, she mentioned how much she loved the lists that Erica did in MATS MBA (Money BadAss) and how she really wanted to land Erica a book deal … And now we’re thrilled to be able to let you know that Erica’s first author-illustrator book, A Year of Weeks (Running Press) is now available for pre-order!

Erica says “It’s all about trying 52 new things by exploring everything from your creative side, to list-making, to goal-planning, and everything in between!”

See more of Erica’s art on her website here, and keep an eye on her Instagram account for more sneak peeks of her book! Erica also took part in the beta test of My Kid Book Pitch – find out what she thought of the course here. (Want more alumni success stories? Find them here.)
