Want to increase how many commissions you get and how much money you make from your art? Want to make your art even more stunning?

Here are 3 things that will make your art even better and radically increase how many jobs you can get and how much money you make. (And guess what? We have a bundle that covers all three things!)

1. Learn to do lettering

Lettering is wonderful for your career and can get you a ton of work – think greeting cards, journal covers, packaging, editorial, party paper, gift, and more – and it can also give you a more interesting and varied creative career.

Plus Lilla told us that when she was a top art agent, lettering was something she always looked for when she was viewing an artist’s portfolio – because being able to do lettering can help you get more work.

Some of Lilla’s lettering gigs from her days as a full-time illustrator in NYC. Her clients included New York University, Chronicle Books, Uppercase magazine, the Grammys and hundreds more. Lilla paid her bills using her lettering skills, and she wants to show you how you can do it too!

Before she was an art agent, Lilla worked as a full-time artist who made a living from her illustrations and lettering. She’s poured everything she knows about lettering – and it’s a lot! – into Assignment Bootcamp: Lettering. Find out more and sign up here with 25% off.

2. Mix up your colors

Color is one of the first ways that we respond to a piece of art, and it has a huge impact on the mood and tone of a piece. Not only that, but using a range of colors and tones can massively improve the range and number of jobs you get, helping you to increase your income.

Why? Because different palettes and color stories are suited for different art markets, and different products within those markets. By increasing the range and variety of color palettes you use in your art, you’re giving yourself the best possible chance of landing a greater variety of jobs, making your career both more interesting and more lucrative.

Many illustrators – even experienced, professional illustrators – tend to use the same colors or palettes over and over again, but it may affect how much work you get or how many art markets you can sell your art in. Choosing different colors and palettes can immediately increase the appeal of your art.

If you want to up your color game so you can get more jobs in more markets, or you just want to play with gorgeous color, don’t miss Color Quest, Lilla’s innovative color play course, which is BACK as a self-paced course in 2026. Find out more and sign up here with 25% off.

Lilla told us: “Whatever stage of your art career you’re at, whether you doodle for fun or you’re a busy working artist, the ability to draw faces is thrilling and great for your career. As an art agent, the ability to draw faces is something that I definitely looked for when I was looking at an artist’s work with a view to representation, because I knew it would radically increase their income.”

Lilla added: “Artists can be very anxious about drawing faces, but from picture books to magazine illustrations, it’s so good for their careers! So I wrote my short course Lilla’s Art Recipes: Drawing Faces to help more artists learn how to draw faces confidently and enjoyably, so nothing is holding them back.”

In Lilla’s Art Recipes: Drawing Faces, illustrator and former top art agent Lilla shows you the key ingredients for drawing faces so you can draw with more confidence while accessing your own quirky uniqueness.
