Nicola Rowe
Make Art That Sells student Nicola reached out to share some of the wins she’s had since taking Make Art That Sells courses.
Nicola told us: “My success story I wanted to share is that I’ve recently overhauled my website, completed several new surface pattern design collections, and I’m about to pitch to some companies with my new work. This has taken me several months to complete plus a lot of hard work. To me this is a massive milestone, as I have also taken several online courses to improve my skills and knowledge and feel much more confident about pitching.”

Nicola added: “My previous portfolio was a little all over the place and I wanted to make it more cohesive as well as show my very best artwork. Eventually I’d like to create illustrations for different markets, but at the moment I’m focused on getting some licensing deals with my pattern designs, while also building up my skills as an illustrator on the side.”

Alice Marrollo
Make Art That Sells student Alice pivoted to a career in illustration and is now represented and works full-time as a children’s illustrator.

Alice told us: “I first took a Make Art That Sells course in 2019 while working as an art director and graphic designer in advertising in Cape Town, South Africa. I was on maternity leave at the time and decided to give it a try, as illustration was something I had always dreamed of pursuing but never quite had the courage to start.”

Alice continued: “I took Bootcamp Special: Character Play again in 2023, followed by Illustrating Children’s Books, and loved it so much. I created work during those courses that is still part of my portfolio today. I worked incredibly hard, but being part of the weekly reviews gave me the confidence to keep going.”

Alice added: “Today, I work full-time as a children’s illustrator. I have a wonderful agent in London and I’m currently working on my first two published picture books with fantastic publishers.”
