Once people start seeing all the great work coming out of the Assignment Bootcamp course, they say, “Hey! I want in!”

Although our Bootcamp e-course started on March 6th, by popular demand we are re-opening the registration doors. We close Bootcamp 2017 registration for good on Monday, April 3rd at 11.59pm PST. So make sure you grab your spot. (our next Bootcamp class will not be until 2018!)

I really want you to see the magnificent work that the students (of all levels) have created. Here’s what the assignment was: I asked the students to design a BADASS BACKPACK using the pattern and motif art that they created this month in class.

I like to start out with an easy assignment and then increase the challenge over the months. Even though this assignment is considered ‘easy’, you are going to see such variety, such creativity, and such beauty in the gallery.

It all started when I was enjoying breakfast in my hotel in New York recently and got the idea to do an assignment for Bootcamp based on the patterns and motifs I was seeing. This tile floor grabbed me.

But patterns can be found even in a lowly pile of gravel. Look at these marvellous shapes and gorgeous blue-grey tones! I encouraged the students to scout out and photograph patterns found in their own life.

I showed the students a whole bunch of images with explanations to get them going. Then, I asked them to take their work and design a backpack. They astounded me with their work. You can see their BADASS BACKPACKS here as we reveal the very first Assignment Bootcamp 2017 Gallery. We have over 600 pieces of work submitted by our students!

“But Lilla,” you ask, “can someone at my level take the course?” Here’s the thing: I’m cool with whatever level you’re at, from beginner to full-time art professional. I’ve taught everyone from little kids to seasoned professional artists, and to be honest, I make the assignments to inspire all the above. So join us. People love Bootcamp because it’s a fabulous way to create new work. That’s why many of our students take Bootcamp every year.
