It’s Evie Ashworth’s turn to open the doors to her office at Robert Kaufman Fabrics. An established member of the textile industry for over 40 years, Evie has traveled the world to all production points from Europe to Asia and in between. She brought her expertise to Robert Kaufman in 2000 to establish a whole category of product specifically for quilt fabric retailers. She merchandised the line, introducing the concept of coordinated samples and print basics, including the trademarked Fusions(TM) brand, and today continues to ensure Robert Kaufman brand’s association with only the highest quality standards. Evie currently directs a large internal design team as well as several art studios abroad, to produce Robert Kaufman’s signature in-house Luxe and Gallery looks as well as a broad range with external licensed artists and brands. #BeMoreWooWoo (New free video series!) Let the Universe help you make great art

One of the things I love about working with Lilla is that on one hand she is an extremely smart and savvy businesswoman, and on the other hand she is a true believer in the power of spirit, who totally trusts the Universe and her own intuition… and she has taught me that those two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Did you know that before we extended our contract to continue producing MATS courses for Lilla, she invited me to go to a tarot reading with her? It was certainly a first from a business partner, but ended up being one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life! We often talk of spiritual things, especially in relation to creativity, and know that many of you are interested too. And even those of you who consider such things to be a bit ‘woo woo’ we want to say

#mygtsprep – Mini Assignment 5: Demographics

What the heck are ‘demographics’ and why do they matter to you as an artist? When I was an illustration student, I always wanted to know who the job was for. Was it a cool magazine where I could do my edgiest work, or a more staid one, where I would be myself – always – but rein in the edges? As a working illustrator, I loved knowing who the client was. Was it the New York Times or Vogue? A Japanese travel magazine or an American cosmetics company? It informed my art. You want to understand the type of client you’re making art for. It’s NOT that you alter your very being. Rather, it’s about getting a feel for things. Is it very feminine? Is it for kids? Is it very intellectual? Is it for foodies or techies?

As the 2015 Global Talent Search approaches I want to share some really important insight with you through today’s mini. It’s all about how you compose your artwork.   Mini assignment 4: Kick ass composition How your artwork is composed is so important! I’ve seen really great icons or products on a page passed on by art directors because the overall layout is not as strong as it could be. Don’t let that happen to you!
