People would say this about me:_____________________________________________________. Why did I create this assignment for you? Because making art is about being a bit weird. Let your inner weird come out! (Want to know more about the importance of this? Check out my free video series on ‘Why what makes you weird makes your brand’ here. And think about furnishing a tree house with your products! Extra credit for drawing your tree house. I can’t wait to see what you do! Seriously, I’m falling a bit in love with you all. Direct from AtlantaMart: 10 hot trends in Home Décor

It’s Reine Sloan from Lilla Rogers Studio here! I have just returned from the huge AtlantaMart 2016 trade show in Georgia, where I explored three skyscrapers (a total of 57 floors) of the freshest products and trends in Home Decor and Gifts. The sheer enormity of the show brings home just how huge an opportunity this is for artists, so I wanted to share 10 hot trends in home décor spotted at the show. THE TOP TEN (1) Vintage style clocks were popping up everywhere in all different shapes, colors and sizes. These were in the CBK showroom! (2) Lots of warm wood and nature elements complimented by a bit of fringe or girls accents (3) Plenty of golds and wallpapers with large motifs and bold design (4) Hand lettering with painterly words and expressions, particularly in wall art (5) Funky lamps with exposed bulbs and wires in all shapes

#mymatsprep Day 2: Lamp Shades

So the course you’re preparing for, is about home décor. Your mission today is to take a photo of one of the home décor products: lamp shades. Find them in your house/apartment, in the subway, in shops, in cafés, in restaurants… I’ll go first. Here are lampshades from my studio. #mymatsprep Day 1: Color Hunt

Are you ready for #MyMATSPep? Lilla has cooked up a very special series of creative prompts, starting TODAY! It’s free, and it will offer you five mini challenges over the course of this week. Be sure to check out the MATS blog every day January 18-22 for your free daily challenges. *** To prepare for the upcoming MATS: Creating Collections for Home Décor class, I want you to hunt down some color palettes—not by thinking about it but by simply taking some photos of what you see around you. So for this Mini Prep assignment, take photos of what you see on your desk or table. (You can cheat and not just use what’s on your desk or table. I’m just suggesting that to give you a starting point). Throw things together and see what kinds of colors that you juxtapose together. You may surprise yourself with some exciting palettes.

How our MATS Alumni have been rocking it in 2015! (Part 1)

So does ‘Make Art That Sells’ actually work? Do artists who take the class actually sell more art? Well yes, they do. We asked class participants for examples of their successes since taking the course, and were staggered by the response, bearing in mind that some people only took the course earlier in the year. Here is part 1 in our series. Students have since secured licensing deals in the gift, editorial, baby apparel, bolt fabric, wall art, greetings, home décor, paper and fashion markets, many have won competitions and a number have been signed for representation. It’s also really important to say that people join Make Art That Sells (MATS) at different stages of their creative journey. Some are nearly ready to seek out work, others less so. For many people the greatest breakthrough is a new level of confidence in their work, a fresh love of creating, or
