Hear what it’s really like to win the Global Talent Search! INTERVIEW with TERRI FRY KASUBA

Lilla writes: Here are some gorgeous product commissions that we have gotten our artists since they won The Global Talent Search & won representation with Lilla Rogers Studio. The range of products is so vast, from book covers to children’s books, greeting cards, bird houses, children’s toys, wall art, dishtowels, puzzles, coloring books, and so much more, and in large part due to their taking Make Art That Sells (MATS). Why? MATS teaches them to create portfolio pieces that show the range of subject matter, styles, and pitches which enable us as their agency to get them these wonderful and lucrative jobs.

We recently launched an interview series with the previous winners of the Global Talent Search (GTS).

The GTS is back again this year (and open now for registration!), and we know our readers would love more sneak peeks into the competition process (and what it’s like to win!) directly from the talented winners!

Today we’re sharing an interview with the wonderful Terri Fry Kasuba who was a Special Studio Award Winner of the 2016 Global Talent Search.

Make Art That Sells: Hey Terri! Thanks for taking some time to tell us about your GTS experience. We’d love to start out by asking you why you decided to enter the Global Talent Search?

Terri Fry Kasuba: It has been a dream of mine to be represented by Lilla Roger Studio long before Lilla started MATS. But if nothing else I knew I would get a great brief and trend boards.

Did you think you had a chance at winning?

I hoped I would get into the top 50, but winning was just a wild dream.

If you previously entered the GTS & didn’t win, tell us about your experience.

I had a great experience. I loved the brief and working toward a goal. I was disappointed but not discouraged.

What did you find useful about the Global Talent Search assignments? What did you learn?

They were like real world jobs. I learned I can work well under pressure.

Did the Global Talent Search help you prepare for your career in any way? If so, how?

It helped me to work well under pressure doing the kind of artwork I enjoyed doing. Lilla’s guidance during the GTS helped me focus on what I wanted to do and not what I thought was right.

What advice would you give to people who are considering entering this year’s competition?

Do it! Whether you win or not…you still win by doing the work.

Did you find any of the MATS courses helpful in preparing you for the competition or for your career as an artist after winning GTS?

All of them. Participating in the courses give you a good idea of what Lilla’s expectations are and how she works.

How did you feel when you won?

Shocked

Has winning the GTS been beneficial for your career?

Yes, yes YES!

How do you like being represented by Lilla Rogers Studio?

I love it more than I can say. Lilla and all the studio ladies are so great. The other artists are great. I don’t think there are many agencies out there that do what LRS does.

Anything to add?

Just do it! You will never regret doing it, you will only regret NOT doing it.

Congrats and well deserved. While sitting on the beach with Terri a few years ago in NJ. We were talking about her career and how talented she was and yes, what’s next girl? She has basically exploded since then and has expanded to many different areas. Her art and her subject matter has evolved significantly. Big congratulations. ?
