This course is aimed at illustrators, and will help you to create some stunning artwork while increasing your knowledge and confidence around drawing and illustrating Blackness, but it’s also ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about four iconic eras of Black American history. Course leader Tamisha Anthony is an enthusiastic and engaging educator who will enthral you with her fascinating depictions of these four eras, and you’ll love the chemistry between Tamisha and art agent Lilla.

Lilla and Tamisha hosted a FREE live Zoom event last week – if you missed it, catch up below. They answered student questions about the course, discussed the recent free #MATSprep illustration assignment and more. And if you enjoyed this then you’ll love Redrawing Black History, so if you haven’t signed up already then register here (it’s FREE!).

Here’s what you’ll get in this incredible course:

Each week for four weeks, Tamisha will present a lively and visually rich slide show about one of four eras. She’ll talk about the historical context, the clothes, the politics, the culture, the hair and more, with an emphasis on Black female artists. Her exhilarating teaching style and carefully curated images will bring each era alive, plus she’ll dress in gorgeous period clothing for each presentation.

You’ll also enjoy a lively discussion between Tamisha and Lilla, Lilla & Tamisha Unleashed. Here are some of the topics they cover in their fascinating chats:

  • Is it okay for a white artist to illustrate a book about a Black person and if so, how do you do it authentically?
  • How do you stay motivated as a creative person?
  • How Tamisha organizes her time while juggling five book deals
  • How Lilla stays organized
  • How you can feel more confident about drawing Black features
  • Lilla’s tips on sounding professional when you get a gig, the course assignments and more

Plus you can also expect some tantalising tidbits about Make Art That Sells courses coming up in 2022 and beyond, and an inspiring journaling exercise. This is a fantastic chance to enjoy candid conversations between a top art agent and a brilliant educator and children’s book illustrator – you won’t want to miss it.
