2. The toys and games market is BOOMING right now.

We’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth saying again: the toy and game market is HUGE right now. According to a report by Reportlinker.com in February 2021, the global doll, toy, and game market is expected to grow from $97.99 billion in 2020 to $102.26 billion in 2021, and to reach a massive $135.66 billion in 2025.

Why are toys and games such a hot market right now? Here’s why:

  • You probably know this already, but most of us stayed in a lot in 2020, which meant a lot of bored kids, a lot of parents desperate to get their children off screens for a while, and limited opportunities for going out or socialising. So what did we do? We shopped for toys.
  • In 2020, a lot of us also realised how much we love and appreciate our kids’ teachers, when we were forced to home school our children ourselves. How did we deal with it? We shopped for toys. (We’ve heard rumors that some parents found they loved home schooling more than they ever expected to, and plan to keep doing it, and of course not everyone is ready or able to go back to school just yet – educational toys are looking strong going forward right now.)
  • The pandemic also saw a lot of parents needing to work while also entertaining children at home. How? You guessed it – we shopped for toys.
  • There’s a lot of doom and gloom in the world right now (why Netflix and chill when you can CNN and panic?), which means toys and games are seeing a surge as people turn to them as a source of joy and to promote family bonding (board game, anyone?).
  • And finally, manufacturers and supply chains are now starting to recover after a year or more of disruption, which means production is ramping up!

4. You already have a ton of art that’s perfect for the toy and game market.

This is particularly true if you have a lot of kid-friendly art, perhaps from taking Illustrating Children’s Books or you just have a kid-friendly style, but even if you don’t, then you’ll still learn how you can leverage your existing art in the toy and game market to open up brand new sources of income.
