There’s something really precious about cups. What do you think of cups? Did you enjoy drawing a page of cups? (Remember, they can be any kind of vessel. I’m just calling them cups for shorthand.)

The guts of a career is the dream.

The thing that will keep you motivated and passionate—through thick and thin—is if the work comes from your very special dream.

What do we mean by a dream? A dream is a vision for your future that makes you happy.  Yes, your career will evolve—that’s the fun of it—but for now, start where you are right now.

In our MBA (Money BadAss) course, brilliant entrepreneurs Beth Kempton and Lilla Rogers will guide you to create your brand, your look, and to think about who you want to appeal to.

This MATS Prep that you’re working on is my sneaky secret trick to help you prepare for when we get to that in Week 2 of the MBA.

Today, you’re going to write your dreams for the future on each cup.

Here are some questions to get you thinking. Put your answers to these questions—or any other dreams—on your cups you drew yesterday.

  1. What hobby or nutty passion have you done in your life that you have loved doing? For me, one of the things I have always loved is going to junk shops and flea markets. You might say, “But Lilla, how can that ever be a career?” Maybe it will be maybe it won’t. But for me, it turned into a national jewelry craft line, so I promise you, you never know where anything will lead you. Don’t worry about the what and how right now. You’ll explore your options in class.
  2. What are your biggest, craziest, wildest dreams that people have told you are impossible? I love being oppositional, don’t you? (-:
  3. What was the most fun you had recently? Even a tiny little thing is fine.
  4. What did you want to do as a kid, when people asked you what you want to be when you grow up?
  5. What did you play as a kid? Did you play teacher, or artist, or shopkeeper, etc.?
  6. What do you see someone else doing that you would you love to do?
  7. What are you doing NOW in your career that you like and would love to do more of? What are you doing NOW that you want to bring to the next level (such as make more money with it, get an agent, get more gigs, more students, etc.)
  8. Imagine you’re sitting in a pretty place, looking at your email on your phone, and the most amazing offer pops up for you! Dear (your name), we love what you do and would love you to  ___________________________” Fill in the blank.
  9. Which MATS course (or any course) was the most fun/rewarding for you? What was the topic? Children’s book illustration? Home Décor line? Gift products? Children’s toys and apparel?  Bolt fabric? Stationery and Journals? Greeting cards?

Write your dreams, joys, goals on the cups that you did yesterday.

If you wish, find the cup on your picture that matches your dream. A big dream, = big cup. A little dream = a smaller cup. Of course, there are no rules here, and this is your very own cup dream page.

In the very first week of our MBA course, you’ll get pages of creative career dream ideas to give you loads of ideas, but for now, just go with where you are right now.

Did you feel something slightly magical about writing on the cups? Tell me in the comments how it went for you. I’d love to know.

Lilla’s Tip of the Day:  The best dreams are the ones where you feel physically excited in your body. Note what makes your heart beat faster.

Tip #2: When you’re done, star your favorites.
