In Part 3, we started to learn a little more about your unique personal style. Today, in Part 4, we’re going to release your inner kook and dig deep into your quirky personality. I’ll explain why once you’ve done the assignment: but for now, let’s play.

Part 4: Once I lived in a tree house

Copy the sentences below into your journal and fill in the blanks. Feel free to illustrate your musings if you like.

Once, I lived in a tree house because ______________________________________________.

I furnished it with ____________________________________________________________.

The objects in it were these colors (you can use the colors you came up with for Part 1 here if you want): ____________________________________________________________.

My tree house had a style you might call __________________________________________.

My tree house looked like __________________________________________________.

People would say this about me:_____________________________________________________.

Why did I create this assignment for you? Because making art is about being a bit weird. Creative people are usually a bit quirky and eccentric. The amazing thing is that those quirks and eccentricities are what make you unique – they are what make you, you. And the more you let them shine, the more your personality and individual style will come through in your art. You can be your own brand. Let your inner weird come out!

There’s another reason too. It’s a sneaky way of getting you to discover your aesthetic sensibility for interior spaces and home décor objects, building on the work that we started together in Part 3. This is fantastic preparation for Creating Collections for Home Décor, where you’ll learn how to put together your own home décor line in your own unique, beautiful, individual style.

Art from Creating Collections for Home Décor by Make Art That Sells student Meera Lee Patel. Look at those dreamy images and that soft color palette. What will your collection look like? Learning more about your style is a step on that journey.

Tip: If you want to learn more about how flying your kook flag can help your creative career, check out my FREE video series, Monetizing your Quirks: What makes you weird is what makes your brand. You can get it in the Make Art That Sells Freebie Library here.

You get an extra credit for drawing your tree house. Let yourself be as wacky as you want to. I want you to have fun with this. Think about furnishing your tree house with your home décor products. What do they look like?

I can’t wait to see what you do! Don’t forget to share on social media and tag @makeartthatsells and use the hashtag #MATSprep so I can find it.

Seriously, I’m think I’m falling a bit in love with you all.
