There’s less than a week to go until Bootcamp Special: Character Play 2023, which starts THIS MONDAY, July 10th! Bootcamp Special: Character Play is all about creating winning characters that you can license for children’s books, toys, games and more – and today we wanted to share some news about a character some of you may already be familiar with.
Make Art That Sells teachers have real world experience: The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game, invented by your teacher Riley Wilkinson, has won numerous awards.
Bootcamp Special: Character Play is taught by brilliant children’s book art director and picture book author Zoë Tucker along with Riley Wilkinson. As well as heading up the Let’s Invent department at Lilla Rogers Studio, Riley is the creator of The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game, an award-winning preschool game that has sold more than two million units and earned more than 10,000 five-star Amazon reviews.

The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game, illustrated by artist Lucia Gaggiotti, has won numerous awards and inspired the development of four sister games – and that isn’t the end for Sneaky! The character has now been featured in a board book: The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel and the Golden Acorn (with a gorgeous foil cover).

And creating winning characters can be easier than you think – essentially, a character can be anything with a face. That might be something that already has a face, like a child or an animal – but you can also add faces to almost anything: vehicles, a potato, plants, buildings, crayons, and more.
Creating a character can be easier than you think – and a great source of income. Let Riley and Zoë show you how in Bootcamp Special: Character Play.
Create unique eye-catching characters for your portfolio. In Bootcamp Special: Character Play, you’ll get a mini text from art director and author Zoë every month that you can use as a starting point to create your unique character – one per month, so three in total. Then Riley will show you how you can use your character to create three show-stopping toy and game pitches designed to catch an art director’s eye.
