Today, let’s meet …
Joanna Mahoney
Last year, we shared how Joanna and Lilla worked on a gorgeous pitch for a puzzle design during Inner Circle, taking it all the way from an initial idea to a complete pitch filled with color and whimsy – read more here.
What else has been going on for Joanna?
Joanna told us: “I totally redesigned and updated my portfolio, with a glowing review from agent Margo Tantau during a ‘live’ group portfolio review she hosted over Zoom. She said, ‘If you’re not already pitching your work, you should be!’”
Joanna worked on this gorgeous puzzle design in Inner Circle, taking it from an initial sketch (left) to finish (right).
That’s not all! Joanna told us: “I was contacted by a recruiter for a full-time Senior Designer & Illustrator role for an e-card company, went through the interview process, and was offered the job. I ended up turning it down because it didn’t feel like the right fit, but it was still exciting to be sought after! The recruiter and hiring manager both specifically called out the lettering skills I showcased in my portfolio, all of which came from my work in Make Art That Sells Assignment Bootcamp: Lettering and projects I worked on during Inner Circle (like the lettering I incorporated into my food truck puzzle).

And finally Joanna told us: “I’ve been hired by two local organizations for freelance projects that blend my design and illustration skills. I’m working towards going full-time freelance, and I feel much more confident doing so after working with Lilla. Inner Circle helped me clarify my vision for my art career, and helped me figure out the next steps I need to take to get there.”
