Lilla’s five lockdown questions: an opportunity to pause and reflect

As a gift to our amazing community, Make Art That Sells co-founders, art agent Lilla Rogers and author and entrepreneur Beth Kempton, have decided to make their raved-about business course for creatives, MATS MBA (Money BadAss), FREE for the foreseeable future. Their aim is to give away at least 20,000 free places – so far more than 12,000 people have signed up. Find out more here. Lilla says: “One thing about where we are in this crazy, unprecedented time in the world is that it cuts through the dumb stuff. We step back and take a good look at our lives: what once was, in the past, and what will be when this is over.  This in-between time is a precious moment to reflect and make changes to our lives so that when this phase is over and the bright new future emerges we will be well-positioned to go after

How are you feeling? Most of us still find ourselves in this strange and disorienting time that art agent Lilla Rogers is calling “the inbetween time”, where our usual way of life has suddenly been torn away and we’re not yet quite sure what our new world will look like. Many of us will be confused, anxious, frightened or bored, and many will also find themselves under increased financial pressure whilst also juggling other needs and commitments. We’re delighted that more than 12,000 artists around the world have already signed up to take our business course for creative people, MATS MBA (Money BadAss), for FREE (usual price £179/approx. $220) as our gift to you at this time – for context, that’s enough to fill New York’s Radio City Music Hall twice over! The course includes tons of videos, worksheets and downloads, which come together to create a 100+ page playbook

Trend brag! Just some of the trends that art agent Lilla spotted ahead of the curve

You may have heard that it’s important to follow trends in your illustration work, and it can certainly help to give your art an edge when appealing to clients. One of the many advantages of getting illustration assignments from Make Art That Sells co-founder and teacher, Lilla Rogers, is that she is also a renowned art agent, who not only keeps on top of trends via her work, but who also knows what clients, publishers and art directors are buying up to two years in advance – so the assignments she writes for you are always up to date and market-savvy. One of Lilla’s affirmations and one of her favorite sayings: when you are truly, fiercely, yourself, you create your own style and brand. The more art you make, the easier you’ll find it to work out your own personal style and your own unique brand. What is trend anyway?

Happy new year from all of us here at Make Art That Sells! What are your plans for the year, large or small? You may remember me, British Jennie, from a couple of newsletters in December. I write all of the Make Art That Sells newsletters and social media posts and various other bits and bobs behind the scenes, but aside from that I also have three smallish children, two cats and a dog. In 2020, my goals, as for the previous decade, will mainly revolve around getting enough sleep. It absolutely blows my mind that ten years ago I would go to bed with the full expectation of being able to sleep uninterrupted for eight whole hours, night after night, without someone needing a drink of water or a trip to the bathroom or to have monsters flushed out from under the bed or sudden reassurance about something that

Lilla has used affirmations as a powerful tool for her entire career, and now, as a gift to you as we move towards the start of a whole new year, we want to give you a free affirmation to download and put somewhere prominent to help guide your own career and art practice. Why affirmations? Affirmations are a great way to program your beliefs so that you move in the direction you want your life to go. By repeating a key phrase, you reframe your beliefs in a subtle, but powerful way. Print out the one we give you here or create your own, then pin them in key places around your house or workspace. Lilla says, “My morning mirror is covered with sticky notes of affirmations I’ve written for my own life raising teenagers, getting through bumpy career points, or working toward goals I want to achieve. Somehow, repeating

Tips from a top art agent: Lilla’s advice for the holidays

Hi everyone, it’s British Jennie here. I write all of the Make Art That Sells newsletters and social media posts and various other bits and bobs behind the scenes. Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to visit Lilla at her home and studio in Boston, which was wonderful for many reasons, but one that struck me as soon as I walked in is that it’s such an incredible space. It’s beautiful, and it’s so so clean. I have three small children, so this was like stepping into a different world for me. She has no yogurt on her walls, no one has inexplicably left a Slinky, a doll’s head and two sticks next to her coffee machine, there are no foodstuffs smeared on any of her furniture. It was amazing. What’s her secret? Grown children and professional help, of course, but I wanted to know if she had any
