Meet the six new artists being represented by Lilla Rogers Studio!

We want to give a big giant shout out to everyone who entered the GTS this year. The competition was fierce! So many of you went on to get commissions and agents from the exposure, and we are delighted for your successes! Those that keep at it, and grow their work, will succeed. That’s the simple formula. We are so delighted that Kendra Binney was the grand prize winner. And the exciting part was that the work was so outstanding that Lilla and her studio ladies couldn’t resist taking on ALL SIX of the finalists! Interesting fact: The judges’ six finalists’ picks were all MATS students! MATS works! Meet all six of Lilla’s newest artists Kendra Binney, Portland, Oregon I’ve been following Kendra since we discovered her work in my Make Art That Sells courses four years ago where she stood out with her dreamy, magical style for a wall art assignment. Lilla’s expert advice on managing creative overwhelm and building your confidence

Lilla often gets great questions from MATS students creating artwork that sells, and some of the common challenges they face in building their creative careers. One question she is often asked is about confidence, so we decided to share her useful insights with our readers in the hopes that others might find her advice useful as well. A MATS student writes: Lilla, I often have times when I feel confident about my art, and totally believe that I can do this. No doubt about it. I was a graphic designer before I had my children (trained in the days when I had to do it all by hand!) but my love of drawing pushed me to want to do more. I had no training in actual art as I went straight from school to graphics, but have drawn f o r e v e r! When I start on these courses

Here’s your third and final GTS Prep mini: Draw some sea anemones! How cool are they? Seriously, to my eye they are hilarious and gorgeous at the same time. The purpose of this is to invite you to draw organic shapes. TIP: Think about shading, as that will help you define the form (the roundness). It’s time for our GTS Prep! We are so excited to launch our 5th Global Talent Search (GTS) which begins June 25th! Join in on the fun with my free prep—three days of mini assignments to get you warmed up and prepared for the first GTS assignment. Each of these is like a little hint, too. First up is “Let’s Make a Color”. Download this worksheet and paint right on it, or simply follow the instructions on a nice piece of paper. Use any medium you want. I am always encouraging you to use neutrals in your art, and to ‘shop’ for new colors to add to your repertoire. This playful worksheet should help you do just that. In the actual GTS assignment, you are going to be asked to use one of my favorite neutrals, so this is a warm up for that. (Can you guess the name of one of my favorite neutrals?)

Reading the tea leaves! See the varied approaches to the same assignment.

One of my favorite things about teaching MATS classes is being amazed at what my students do with the assignments I give them. I get to see all the beautiful work they make. Plus, I especially love to watch the growth of the students over time. In February, I gave our students an assignment to do a journal cover around the theme of reading tea leaves for our Assignment Bootcamp course. I give loads of visual inspiration, guidance, and advice, but then I encourage students to approach the assignment any way they like. Check out the diverse array of amazing work they did: Valerie Hamill Traci Sally Kelly LaPalme Rachael Grainger We’ve just released the March gallery from Assignment Bootcamp & you can take a look at even more gorgeous work by my students here. I can’t wait to see what else they create in the next months. Want to
