Everyone loves a makeover! See our Illustrating Children’s Books’ students before and afters (#6 will blow you away!)

Work by MATS student Anna Wilson for our most recent Illustrating Children’s Books course. Our outstanding Illustrating Children’s Books online course already gets rave reviews from our students, because it’s enormous fun, produces beautiful art and snags great jobs. Plus for our most recent course, co-teachers art agent Lilla Rogers and children’s book art director Zoë Tucker had a surprise for our students: right before class started, they announced that every one of the weekly reviews of student work would be LIVE! This means that students were able to respond to their teachers, add comments, ask questions and get answers, all in real time, which is highly motivating and encourages each student bring their A-game! There is no other course out there like this and as a result we have been seeing some absolutely incredible art. We are launching another brand-new children’s book illustration course in August!  What’s the difference

Why Make Art That Sells? Top art agent Lilla Rogers created Make Art That Sells because she wants to help creative people to make a living from their art. She says: “I want gifted people to make money with their art. They deserve it. I want them to make art that sells, while being their own cool selves. That’s my deal.” Every one of our outstanding raved-about courses was created to help creatives like you to make a living from making art, and they really work! In fact, ALL of the new artists taken on by Lilla Rogers Studio since MATS began in 2013 have been former MATS students – 17 in total! (Read more about them and how they got chosen here and here). REVEALED! Who is Lilla Rogers Studio’s newest artist?

We recently revealed that Lilla Rogers Studio is taking on a new artist who is also a Make Art That Sells student. This week we’re thrilled to be able to tell you that LRS’s newest artist is …  Kelly Anne Dalton!   Congrats, Kelly Anne!  Lilla said: “Kelly Anne’s work is so strong, cool and eccentric, plus her work demonstrates a charming, quirky imagination.  Her children’s book work in particular is incredibly strong: she’s taken Illustrating Children’s Books a number of times. It was obvious to me that she worked really hard in class and she always delivered: I always knew that her assignments were going to blow me away. You could tell that she was really taking in what Zoë and I were saying, absorbing the information from class and applying it to her work, and that told me that she was willing to work with me and that we could

What’s a #MATSprep? It’s a set of free exercises to get prepared for class, or just to enjoy some creative fun and inspiration, and they’re a great way to see what Lilla’s playful teaching style is all about.  MATS preps are usually spread over a couple of days or more, and each day you complete a task without knowing what you’ll be doing with it the following day. As you can imagine, it’s enormous fun and always entertaining to find out where each prep will take you, but it’s also a brilliant way to find the joy in your artmaking, to just be in the moment and to play. Plus not knowing what will happen next is exciting and engaging;
