Lilla here. Anyone who’s taken any of my courses knows that one of my secrets – one of the ways I trick you into doing your very best art – is to make them playful and fun.

Why? Firstly, because I want you not only to sign up for my courses, but to do them too, so that your art gets better and better and your career gets more interesting and lucrative.

If you’re excited about a course, if you’re feeling inspired and raring to go, you’re more likely to do it.

And secondly, if you enjoy your art-making, then that will come through in the work that you produce, and people buy your joy. Plus I want your career, and your life, to be joyful.

So, to help you play and find the joy in your art-making, I’m going to share three assignments over the next three weeks to help you grow your art. They’re just for fun and completely optional, but I hope that you’ll join in. Maybe you’ll surprise yourself a little. Maybe you’ll find a new way to do something.

So much of making art is experimenting, playing, pushing yourself a little, and I hope these assignments will help you do that.

Here’s your first assignment!

First up is my “Let’s Make a Color” worksheet. Download the worksheet and paint right on it, or simply follow the instructions on a nice piece of paper. Use any medium you want. Try different mediums if you want to.

Give it a try! Don’t forget to name your color too. Be as silly or witty as you like. Being able to show humor in your art is great for your creative career. How about Post-walk Dog Shake Taupe or What’s that Stain? Greige, or My Machine Ran Out of Beans Mid-cup Brown?

Don’t forget to share on social media and tag @makeartthatsells so I can see what you do. I’m really eager to see what you come up with, and what you choose to name your color!
