WOW! See the book that came out of Illustrating Children’s Books!

We’re just a couple of weeks away from the start of Illustrating Children’s Books, which is one of our most popular and most raved-about courses for very good reason: it’s super fun, it’ll help you produce a full professional children’s book pitch in just five weeks, and it really works! Want proof? Read on … !  Every single Illustrating Children’s Books course includes three brand new texts written exclusively for the course by co-teacher and children’s book art director Zoë Tucker (and last time art agent Lilla got involved and wrote one of the texts too!). The texts are designed to get the very best out of every student, whatever level they’re at, and are also bang on trend, which means they’re exactly what art directors and art agents want to see.  In a previous class, MATS student Rachel Katstaller chose Zoë’s story about Ada Lovelace, Ada Lovelace and the Number Crunching Machine, as her text to work on

REVEALED! Who is Lilla Rogers Studio’s newest artist?

We recently revealed that Lilla Rogers Studio is taking on a new artist who is also a Make Art That Sells student. This week we’re thrilled to be able to tell you that LRS’s newest artist is …  Kelly Anne Dalton!   Congrats, Kelly Anne!  Lilla said: “Kelly Anne’s work is so strong, cool and eccentric, plus her work demonstrates a charming, quirky imagination.  Her children’s book work in particular is incredibly strong: she’s taken Illustrating Children’s Books a number of times. It was obvious to me that she worked really hard in class and she always delivered: I always knew that her assignments were going to blow me away. You could tell that she was really taking in what Zoë and I were saying, absorbing the information from class and applying it to her work, and that told me that she was willing to work with me and that we could

HUGE NEWS! Lilla Rogers Studio is taking on a Make Art That Sells student!

We’re thrilled to be able to share our big news: Lilla Rogers Studio is taking on a new artist, and it’s one of our very own Make Art That Sells students!   MATS courses are unique in being led by one of the world’s foremost art agents, Lilla Rogers – which means that they offer students an unparalleled opportunity to get their art directly in front of a leading art agent! This student is someone who will have taken multiple MATS courses, been followed by MATS on Instagram and possibly had work reviewed in class by Lilla: all wonderful opportunities for MATS students to get their work noticed by Lilla and possibly get scooped up for representation.  In fact, the majority of artists recently taken on by Lilla Rogers Studio, including all six of the finalists from the most recent round of Lilla’s  Global Talent Search, have all been MATS students. Here are three of Lilla’s

Today, we published a blog post announcing the winners of our recent competition where our alum shared their successes! We have more to share with you in the post below.   JENESY CLAIRE I wanted to share a quick story about how MATS brought me to where I am today :  In 2014, I had finally quit my job running restaurants in NYC to pursue my dream illustrating children’s books. I went to every conference, workshop, and meet up group I could, showing my portfolio to anyone who would look at it. A generous tip from a mentor suggested I look at MATS to beef up my skills and portfolio, and I was off. I tore through the classes, and I thought, improved a lot. Art directors did not.   At the same time, my husband and I were relocated to Singapore for his work. I was thrown into a whirlwind of new colors and

Recently, Flow Magazine published their gorgeous tear-off calendar for 2019, and we were thrilled to see that so many MATS students were selected to be included in the calendar! Flow told us, “We paid attention to quality, diversity, colors, orginality and if the illustration makes us happy, or touches us. We think with this calendar we bring an ode to illustrators, and we give you a different ‘painting’ on your wall, every day of the year!” In many cases, the images were created during Make Art That Sells online courses.
