In our recent Assignment Bootcamp course, one of the assignments  was aimed at the lucrative and exciting editorial market. The assignment was to create an illustration to accompany an article on wabi sabi by Make Art That Sells co-founder Beth Kempton, following publication of her bestselling book Wabi Sabi: Japanese Wisdom for a Perfectly Imperfect Life. Wabi sabi is a Japanese term connected to the idea of beauty in imperfection, so when Uppercase called for submissions around the theme of “perfectly imperfect”, it was clearly a perfect fit.
